It’s nice to build something pretty amazing with your own two hands, even something as big as a cabin. And when you have the right resources (like good cabin plans) and materials, it is incredibly satisfying.

But even using good cabin plans and meticulous preparation, most people will still have wood scraps left over. But a handy person like you will have no problem making other wonderful wood working projects using all that scrap.

Then when you are looking for the perfect fixtures for that cabin, don’t let your excitement get the better of you. Sure that really pricey window would look fantastic on your cabin, but looking around some more, you may find you can build something at a lower cost but just as perfect on the cabin you’re building, after all cabins are supposedly charmingly rustic, right?

Next, take a look and compare the logs you want to use, rough finish versus hand crafted look? The first is less expensive and more appealing for a cabin than the latter which is more expensive and does not radiate that rustic appeal.

Lastly, it may rarely be a good idea to leave something undone but if there are parts of the cabin’s construction that can be finished at a later date when your wallet is not as constrained, then leave that and complete it when you have enough budget. You do not need to complete everything at once and stretch your budget too tight.
